How can i totally delete my Yahoo Messenger in my computer ?

I got a virus thru my YM few weeks back, and i deletd my YM immediately w/o using the uninstall. and i've realized that i can still see the YM icon on my menu bar (?), and can still launch it. i want to totally delete it first before i download a new one.

Go to your control panel and click on 'Add/Remove programs'. See if yahoo messenger is still in the list. A lot of times even though you think you have removed a program, the program still remains in the registry.
Reply:If you can still launch it then you didn't delete it. Read below for proper way to uninstall yahoo messenger. A note to consider, just uninstalling yahoo messneger probably isn't enough to get rid of your virus/worm. You need to run various scans to make sure your computer is clean. Make sure to turn off system restore until you have your computer cleaned and then you can reboot and turn it back on. CUSTOM UNINSTALL OF YAHOO MESSENGER


I would suggest uninstalling yahoo messenger completely through add/remove programs. If you are using a version below 8.0 then make sure you choose custom uninstall. 8.0 versions and above do not have that option.





Then navigate to your Program Files on your hard drive. Find the Yahoo Folder. Open the yahoo folder and find the Messenger folder inside. Delete this.





If you have a trusted registry scanner use it now. If you do not skip this step because you can mess things up if you do not know what you are doing. I use Ccleaner. Its registry scanner is the Issues Icon with the blue cubes. The sweeper part is very good at removing junk files on your computer. The registry cleaner will ask if you want to back up changes to your registry. Always say yes. Be warned: investigate any of the findings in the registry cleaner part. Know what you are deleting before you delete it and always back up. Any program like this is USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. But I think this is a safer alternative than going into the registry itself and editing it there. If you do not know what you are doing you can mess it up.





Reboot your computer. This is a very important step. Then go to the yahoo messenger website http://messenger.yahoo.com/


and download and install it again.
