How does instant messenger work?

I know some of my contacts have that. I don't know anything about it..can someone tell me how it works and what exactly the point of it is?

How does instant messenger work?
Click on messenger which is next to email, you have to download it but it doesn't take long.


You can chat, much quicker than email you can also play games and draw pics etc.

Reply:it's like email but way quicker.. it's a conversation you have with someone and it's all in a little box..it's like real time.. you'll send and IM and it'll pop up on their screen.. they'll send one back and it'll pop up on yours... this continues line after line. the conversation is all listed in the little box..
